Solar-Powered Precision Irrigation & Soil Health Pilot

Solar-Powered Precision Irrigation & Soil Health Pilot

Project Overview

Transitioning diesel-powered irrigation to clean solar technology coupled with soil moisture sensors for optimal water efficiency.

The Challenge

High diesel fuel costs eroded farmer profitability, while flood irrigation led to soil salinization and water waste.

Project Objectives

1. Convert 40 pilot farms to solar drip irrigation. 2. Cut irrigation fuel overheads by 80%. 3. Enhance water productivity.

Our Approach & Activities

Sabuul provided turnkey technical advisory, soil testing, and farmer training on precision moisture monitoring.

Key Activities Executed:

Soil chemistry and moisture capacity testing
Solar pump sizing and drip line design specifications
Demonstration site establishment and field open days
Key Results & Impact
85% reduction in pumping operational costs
40% reduction in water usage per hectare with increased tomato & chili yields
Broader Community Impact: Pioneered sustainable, clean energy adoption in Jubbaland commercial farming hubs.
